Illegal fly-posters have virtually given up in despair after a battle off wills with Great Yarmouth’s eagle-eyed street warden force.

"One of the street wardens’ biggest successses is the distinct lack these days of fly-posters attached by cable ties to lamp-posts and railings," says town centre manager Jonathan Newman.

"It used to be a very common practice, but the wardens have done such a good job of removing these as soon as they go up that people have stopped bothering. They realise it’s waste of time and they’ve got fed up.

"The wardens have to take care, because although it’s illegal to put these posters up they’re still dealing with other people’s property.

"They take the boards down, store them, and then forward them to the Highways depot at Caister. There they inform the owners that they need to come and take the boards away or they will be disposed of.

"From a safety point of view it’s also very important that the wardens are careful to remove the cable ties as well. These things tend to be put up at about head height, and could easily catch someone in the eye."
